Letter to the Editor
Homosexuality, cancer share no legitimate commonalities

After reading Erin Franks' letter, "Gays fight tough opposition as a result of their lifestyle," Feb. 21, I came away confused an appalled that someone could have such a distorted view.

Franks' comparison between homosexuality and cancer is ludicrous and trivializes the disease as well as the efforts of the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon. She makes the bold assertion that homosexuality is a disease yet the title of the letter describes it as a lifestyle. A lifestyle is based on personal choice while being afflicted with cancer is a tragic consequence of events over which the individual has no control. That is truly a "life filled with struggle and pain." How dare Franks insult the families and children who suffer through such a horrific ordeal. She should be ashamed of herself.
