NEWS

Penn State President Graham Spanier will travel to the state Capitol today for a House Appropriations Committee hearing in an effort to increase funding for Penn State for the upcoming academic year.

Gov. Ed Rendell announced Monday that he plans to veto a bill requiring voters to show a form of identification at the polls.

Penn State has seen a significant increase in the number students interested in majoring in health care-related fields, following the trend of many campuses across the United States.

Fewer international students will likely be turned away from Penn State next fall because of an extension of the student visa application process.

With the confirmation of Justice Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court last month and the late-term abortion case currently before the court, some local women think it is time to voice their opinions on the future of women's reproductive rights.

The university's Office of Physical Plant (OPP) is trying to make the blue and white of Penn State a little greener.

The Penn State community will celebrate its 151st birthday today with a two-part party featuring music, cake and history.

Man charged in domestic threat case

District Attorney Michael Madeira said yesterday at a press conference he will seek a first-degree murder conviction for the man charged with the stabbing death of Penn State senior Michael Donahue.

SPORTS

Ed DeChellis hasn't ever been quite the zone man. The Penn State men's basketball coach said player size and poor ball containment on the perimeter forced him to drop man-to-man defense altogether, but the switch is not night and day.

Beyond the little leagues, when a coach says it's not whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game, he's most likely full of it or has no real expectations.

You'd think Penn State's spirits would be flying high after two straight wins. But junior guard David Jackson shook his head when asked if he was happy.

"It" makes Penn State women's basketball assistant coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl cringe to the point where she can't even say the phrase. Uttering its name could conjure up a horrific nightmare of possibilities.

Whether it is flipping and twisting on a mat, or into the water, he is unstoppable.

Posted on the wall next to the thrower's circle at the Multi-Sport Facility is a paper with three words: Big Ten Time.

"Keep your hip down," a Penn State athletic trainer said to Dan O'Dell.

Last week, the Penn State women's gymnastics team found a way to kill two birds with one stone.
