Compassion necessary for FEMA restructuring

The U.S. has the resources to completely eliminate hunger, housing and medical problems. But instead, while people are suffering, we fight about who is in charge ("Federal Emergency Management Agency: DHS should handle overhauling agency," Feb. 21). Our leaders seem to be too far removed from the life of the average American. As for FEMA, no system can be developed to prepare for every possible situation, but having compassionate people in charge will certainly fill a lot of gaps.
