Thon provides students chance to help others

In the four years that I have been at Penn State, nothing has made me prouder than the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon ("Thon shatters previous record," Feb. 20). Aside from the amazing amount of money we raise for the kids, the best aspect of Thon is how each person leaves their pride "at the door." I remember being on the floor and a Grease mix was booming throughout the building, and when I looked around every guy I saw was singing the song at the top of his lungs. How often do you see guys, many of whom belong to fraternities, singing songs like that? How often do you see 19- to 23-year-olds crying, swaying and dancing in unison even though they are drenched in sweat? Thon is truly an amazing experience because it proves that we care more about others than we do about ourselves.
