Thon weekend in photos (PDF format)

Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon dancers weren't the only ones getting their groove on this weekend.

"Pop punk has been without revolution," Will Pugh, lead singer of the group Cartel, said.

In the soundtrack of life, most people want to be their own DJ.

In spite of a driving-on-the-sidewalk DUI incident in front of Rec Hall early Saturday morning, the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon went off without a hitch, Penn State University Police said yesterday.

Twenty days after the death of her mother, Yolanda King will return to the Penn State campus for the third time tonight to give a speech and a performance.

Jim Isajewicz knows he could end up in the Middle East as a Marine officer -- and his Arabic classes could possibly save lives someday.

Sally Miller didn't leave this year's Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon empty-handed -- instead, she took home new hand-knit socks.

Penn State athletes took an hour from their busy practice schedules to play hockey, soccer and duck-duck-goose with Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (Thon) kids in the South Gym on Saturday.

At 3:45 a.m., Maria Paredes (senior-Spanish) felt like a kid in a toy store.

Technology has transformed the way thousands of supporters celebrate the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon. Thon has now become a worldwide phenomenon, touching 25,000 viewers in 30 different countries.

With barely enough room to properly perform the arm movements and body jumps, Tommy Otterbine intently studied the line dance before imitating.

In addition to the 700 dancers at the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon this weekend, there was one unofficial dancer that has been rocking the floor for 30 years.

People visiting Rec Hall this weekend for the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon could easily see dancers, captains and moralers on the floor, but it may have been harder to spot the volunteers behind the scenes. Looking closely, the easiest "behind-the-scenes" group to spot on Friday night was the OPPerations (OPP) committee. You just had to look for the chickens.

At noon on Saturday, a miniature assembly line of pickles, lettuce and deli meats was set to feed those involved with the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon -- all 1,800 of them.

A Penn State student died last night from wounds he sustained after he was stabbed in the heart early Friday morning inside Club Love, 129 1/2 S. Pugh St.

The Penn State women's swimming and diving team started off last week's Big Ten Championship meet doing something it hardly ever does: scoring no points while getting disqualified in its first event. It ended the week doing something that the program has never done before: winning the Big Ten title in back-to-back seasons.

As tears poured down her face, Xiaomin Xia stood in front of more than 200 people Saturday and told them her sister was always a brilliant and happy girl.

Four Diamonds child Michael Palm was shooting everyone in sight with silly string, including his parents.

Nobody thought it could be done -- the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (Thon) broke last year's record by almost $100,000.

SPORTS

For its second week of the season, the Penn State women's tennis team wanted to come away with two solid victories this past weekend.

Last fall, the Penn State men's rugby team didn't lose. Amassing a perfect 9-0 record, the Ruggers never scored less than 24 points and allowed over 10 just once.

It's an experience comparable to studying abroad, with lessons learned in new places. This past weekend, Penn State baseball saw its first study session held in New Orleans, La., where geography became the main focus.

It was business as usual for the No. 9 men's volleyball team (7-4, 4-0 EIVA) in its Friday match at Saint Francis (6-6, 3-2 EIVA).

Five matches in three days, with easily the toughest competition of the season to date coming on the road sounds like a tall order for any team.

Junior point guard Ben Luber shot a pass to senior forward Travis Parker for an easy bucket late in the first half. Parker had streaked down the floor, finding himself ahead of a couple defenders.

After breaking their longest losing streak in more than a decade, the Penn State ACHA Division I Icers seemed poised to finish their home schedule out on a strong note.

After breaking their longest losing streak in more than a decade, the Penn State ACHA Division I Icers seemed poised to finish their home schedule out on a strong note.

A win against the No. 1 team in the nation tends to take some of the sting out of a losing weekend.

With the scores so close at the end of the last rotation that no one knew which team won, two teams stood on the Bryce Jordan Center floor anxiously waiting the final score for 15 minutes.

If it's better to finish on a roll than start on one, the No. 8 Penn State wrestling team is in perfect position for the Big Ten Tournament.
