Cheney shooting editorial lacks journalistic value
As a student of journalism, I found the first part of The Daily Collegian's editorial one of the most unbiased and probing from a journalistic standpoint ("Dick Cheney: Secrecy over shooting typical of administration," Feb. 16). However I wonder, did anyone recreate the hunting scene? For instance, how far apart were the shooter and victim? Was the land sloping upward? Was the land level? Was there a steep incline that accounted for the assessment? Was Harry Whittington involved in any probes? Who initiated the invitation to go hunting? I believe we would be better off if we had all the relevant data. Then we could wholeheartedly agree with the conclusion that it was an accidental shooting. But without all that pertinent data, normally two men with similar heights wearing orange hunting jackets cannot shoot each other on level ground. Frank Field
