Letter to the Editor
Plotts' reassignment will hurt PSU campus

I am shocked and saddened to hear that "Don the Mail Guy" will no longer be a part of the University Park Post Office ("University Park Post Office to replace 'Don the Mail Guy'," Feb. 15). The United States Postal Service made a serious error, and it is unfair to both Don Plotts and to Penn State students.

Plotts is correct in saying that this will negatively affect the service at the post office. The line at the post office is already long enough, and it's especially difficult on students and professors who need to get their mail taken care of quickly. With just one person working behind the counter, the situation is just going to get worse.

In addition to the practical issues involved, reassigning Plotts is just wrong. Plotts and "Mike the Mailman" are a part of Penn State, and have dedicated themselves to customer service that's above and beyond the call of duty for any postal worker.

Their ridiculous antics, including requests for cookies and flashing the "nice shoes" sign have been brightening people's days for years during what is supposed to be a frustrating experience. This is not the right way to reward them.
