With their fifth studio album Home, the Irish quartet, The Corrs, makes a return to its Celtic roots.
This time around with their latest album the sense of Ireland is stronger with slower songs that truly show the siblings have not forgotten where they come from. Songs such as "My Lagan Love" show why The Corrs have been so successful in America. The song is a true combination of their Irish heritage and similar to the pop sound that made the band famous with its hit song "Breathless." Other songs like "Black Is The Colour" show a more somber side to the group.
Most of the songs on the CD come from a songbook The Corrs' mother had, and the other tunes are more traditional Irish songs such as "Heart Like a Wheel" and "Dimming of the Day." Listening to the CD is like hearing old Irish folklore.
A twist on the album comes later with the song "Old Town."
This light, upbeat song showcases the vocal talent the siblings have and lends to their ability to blend in four part harmony that is reminiscent of old '60s music. Home is a smart blend of old and new that no other band could create. Unfortunately for this group, Home is lacking that special something that makes this band's music catchy.
While the CD is very pretty it leaves you wanting more and almost aching for their more pop style of music. The CD gets tiresome as each song has its own unique quality, but somehow the songs blend together with the overuse of Irish instruments such as the bagpipe.
Fans of The Corrs first four albums are sure to appreciate the mix of styles, backgrounds and vocals that the group employs on its new album. It is obvious that with The Corrs latest album they feel more at home sharing their country and the style of music they love with their fans. Grade: B
