Current facilities adequate for medical needs of area
I'm sorry Gary Partner, but your estimation is wrong ("Proposed Geisinger facility provides medical alternative," Feb. 13). As you may well know, University Park, home to Penn State, is nestled in the heart of State College. While it's true that on any given Saturday in the fall State College becomes the third largest "metropolitan area" in the state, the rest of the year it is just another mountain town struggling to keep its economy rolling on. Yes, this town is influenced by the expenses of 43,000 young men and women; however, the students, the few who actually need medical attention, are well-taken care of by University Health Services and Mount Nittany Medical Center. Partner mentioned the fact that the locals aren't getting the medical attention they deserve. Personally, I don't see how a university medical center that uses cutting edge research could be outmatched. Central Pennsylvania is just fine when it comes to medical accommodations.
