Some students fail to take responsibility for problems
Many students responded harshly to Lana Ulrich's column, "Disorders not to blame for all of life's problems," Feb. 9. These students may have failed to notice Ulrich did say there are people who do suffer from legitimate disorders and they should receive help. And she also pointed out that mental illness is not a joke. People need to understand kids nowadays do, in fact, see their friends receiving extra time and breaks as well as medication. If the results they see are successful, they might think, "Why not me?" So many things today are trends and people want to follow them. I can't count the number of times I have heard my friends refer to themselves as having Attention Deficit Disorder or needing Adderall, when in fact we all know they don't. I think these students should read these columns a little more carefully before they pick them apart. I, for one, do not think Ulrich was making light of the situation, but rather pointing out that some students try to take the easy way out. Justin Gramkow
