Penn State Student Affairs administrators and student leaders from various organizations will hold an open meeting tonight to discuss the future of the student activity fee at the university.
The meeting, which will be held at 7:30 tonight in the HUB Auditorium and is open to the public, will include an overview of the proceedings of two "working groups" -- composed of a mix of students and administrators -- that have been meeting weekly since Jan. 23. One group, the Programming Board Work Group, has focused on developing prospective details of a student activity and programming board, while the other group, the Student Fee Allocation Process Work Group has dealt with how the student activity fee will be allocated. People attending tonight's meeting will hear about the groups' progress.
"The open forum is a place for people to hear our most current thinking," said Felicia McGinty, associate vice president for student engagement and a member of the Programming Board Work Group.
Colleen Briley (senior-English and communication arts and sciences), who co-chairs the Programming Board Work Group, said each group would have representatives present tonight about their goals. Briley added she wanted to make sure students knew they could ask questions and give feedback in the planning process of the new programming board.
"Right now, we're just looking to clarify what we're actually doing," she said.
Briley said she was not sure which administrators would be present for tonight's meeting, but it was likely that Associate Vice President of Student Affairs Philip Burlingame and Senior Director of Unions and Student Activities Stan Latta would attend. Burlingame is co-chairing the Student Fee Allocation Process Work Group along with Shaira Morales (senior-health policy and administration), and Latta is co-chairing the Programming Board Work Group along with Briley.
Both groups aim to present recommendations to Vice President for Student Affairs Vicky Triponey by April 14.
