SPORTS

After a solid performance to open its season, the Penn State men's tennis team had some things to work out before its next match.

For most teams, a 15-6 win in an exhibition game would be a time of celebration and give the squad a positive outlook for the season ahead.

On Friday night, the meet again came down to the last event. This time, however, it was No. 7 Nebraska's mistakes that won the meet for the No. 17 Penn State women's gymnastics team and not its own performance.

Annual coaches clinic to take place in April

The Penn State women's tennis team was defeated by both its competitors this weekend despite a hard-fought battle.

Minutes before the Penn State Lady Lions' game against Illinois yesterday, one small fan from the Rene's Dunkers fan club had a huge request.

Scoring was at a premium early on yesterday -- that was until sophomore guard Adrienne Squire started dropping bombs from all over the floor.

Ed DeChellis said it was a tale of two halves for Penn State -- it was the best of first halves, and it was the worst of second halves.

If you asked any member of the Penn State ACHA Division I Icers the last time a Penn State team had lost four games in a row, he would most likely not have been able to tell you.

Fittingly, the halftime act was Quick Change, a couple that altered its appearance several times during a short dancing performance on the Bryce Jordan Center floor.

Yesterday, Penn State men's volleyball coach Mark Pavlik celebrated.

Penn State women's track and field coach Beth Alford-Sullivan clutched a trophy signifying her team's victory this weekend in the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup, held at the Multi-Sport Facility.

While the snow was falling outside the Multi-Sport Facility, the Penn State men's track and field seniors were rising up to lead their team to a victory in the sixth annual Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup.

Like Mad Max, the members of the No. 8 Penn State wrestling team have been "Road Warriors" this season.

ARTS

Screaming, cowboy-hat-wearing fans of all ages, an elaborate stage setup and colorful lights set the background for a Rascal Flatts' performance that never lost its excitement throughout the group's entire hour-and-a-half set Friday night.

It's not unusual to see a local band playing around the clubs downtown; however, it is unusual to see three local bands perform together for the first time in one show. Tonight, Crowbar, 420 E. College Ave., will be hosting student band The Man with opening acts This Place is Haunted and The Lost Faculties.
