PSU fails to accommodate students who pay tuition
I'm writing this in response to the article "Dorm contracts fail to meet need," Feb. 1. Penn State has spent a great deal of time and money constructing buildings but is still not able to house all the students. The university's drive to expand campus with class and research buildings has eclipsed the need for student dorms. Penn State is also moving part of the Dickinson School of Law to University Park. That's more funding for class buildings and none for dorms. If students don't have housing, they won't come to Penn State, or if they do enroll here, they won't stay here. No student who pays for a room on campus wants to be stuffed into supplemental and have to share a study lounge with six strangers. Penn State has spent housing money to build expensive single dorms like Eastview Terrace and renovate North Halls instead of building much needed double-occupancy dorms. Penn State shut the dorm door in students' faces, but I'm sure they'll have both hands out when it comes time for tuition. Katie Hetherington
