Steelers' Super Bowl victory trumps men's basketball win

I was at the basketball game last year when we all expected Penn State to upset Illinois, but unfortunately we were pummeled into submission in the opening minutes. To see the team exact revenge on the Illini was absolutely thrilling and a great thing for the campus. But come on, do you honestly expect more people to care about a Penn State men's basketball regular season game than the Super Bowl ("Basketball win over Illinois a bigger story than Steelers," Feb. 8)?

Regardless of Illinois' rank and win streak, and regardless of how well our basketball team has played this year, the fact remains that a Pennsylvania team playing in the Super Bowl will always be a bigger story. I know that if you're a Seattle fan or a disgruntled Eagles fan on campus, you want the Super Bowl pushed under the rug for obvious reasons. But don't take my word alone. Ask the several hundred other Steelers fans who rushed the streets and celebrated late into the night. I don't think the turnout at Beaver Canyon for the basketball team was quite as high on Saturday night, so which event do you think people cared about more?
