NEWS

Local pastors are lobbying for Penn State to affiliate itself with a new Christian branch campus in State College, but some university employees said they already offer a variety of avenues for students to explore their faiths.

In the recent comedy hit The 40 Year Old Virgin, the main character's dream girl works at an eBay store.

Today most college students can bid online to buy almost anything to fulfill their everyday needs: class notes, essays, dorm room accessories and even a date for Saturday night.

In an effort to inform and receive feedback from students regarding the planning of a new programming board at Penn State, three students involved will host an open student forum tonight.

With Black Jack chicken and potatoes shaped like dice, McElwain cook Sue Merritts will compete, Iron Chef style, against other dining hall cooks at a regional Culinary Challenge at Virginia Tech in March.

Politics was a circus at Monday night's State College Borough Council meeting.

While they work to finalize the $39 million needed to construct the new Fraser Centre, organizers are receiving inquiries from national chains such as Urban Outfitters and Borders bookstores concerning the commercial space in the new center.

Two suspects were stopped short of their shopping spree at the Nittany Mall on Monday when they were arrested by a State College police officer who walked up to them and asked about the stolen credit card they were shopping with.

As another local politician declares candidacy for the 34th Senate district seat, a formerly small Web site grows in strength.

In response to Undergraduate Student Government (USG) President Galen Foulke's University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) initiative and his establishment of Students for Real Advocacy, the Senate debated USG executive branch motives at last night's meeting and is in the process of creating separate referenda questions.

Although Penn State is still investigating a hazing-related incident that occurred last fall at Delta Sigma fraternity, the State College Police Department will not file criminal charges, Officer Kelly Aston said.

As students watch tonight's 48th annual Grammy Awards, they may notice that Penn State is represented into two categories.

No Refund Theatre (NRT) may have to look to its members to finance upcoming productions after receiving no response from the University Park Allocation Committee (UPAC) -- its primary source of funding.

The black curtains rarely move on Saturdays anymore, if they ever did in the 10-year history of the Bryce Jordan Center. They conspicuously try to hide the small men's basketball crowd. Maybe if we don't let them see the seats, they won't notice they're completely empty.

Donning glasses, rummaging through her navy bookbag, Rene Portland pulled out the latest assigned reading.

Depth is a great advantage for any coach -- especially when that coach is starting his first full season. Penn State men's tennis coach Bill Potoczny will be armed with a very deep lineup as he leads the Nittany Lions in his first spring as head coach.

Ed DeChellis warned the media it might sound stupid, but he said it anyhow.
