Letter to the Editor
Commonwealth campuses offer pleasant alternatives

The housing shortage is a problem that has come up at University Park that does not happen at the commonwealth locations ("Dorm contracts fail to meet need," Feb. 1). We don't have on campus living at Penn State New Kensington, but at Penn State Beaver and Penn State McKeesport, there are more than enough (in fact, many of Beaver's dorms are empty).

The commonwealth locations offer great majors and activities, and our classes are taught by professors, not teaching assistants or graduate students. Each campus is also one great big family. You get to experience a great educational environment at each commonwealth campus; and the small student population allows for more one-on-one interaction between students and professors, which is beneficial for students.

Maybe it is time for the university to focus more on developing the commonwealth locations and increasing the majors offered and the funding given at these locations rather than just focusing on University Park.
