"Here we go Steelers, here we go" chants could be heard throughout Happy Valley last night as the Pittsburgh Steelers' 21-10 win over the Seattle Seahawks gave fans another reason to bleed black and gold.
After the last second on the clock ran out, Kelly Jubic (sophomore-education) and Ashley Meister (sophomore-biology) ran down Beaver Avenue last night, chanting and swinging their Terrible Towels.
"We've been waiting for this for so long, it's just unbelievable," Jubic said.
Despite the low temperature, Meister said she couldn't even feel the cold and was in awe over the win.
A handful of State College police and Penn State University police were located outside of Canyon Pizza, 260 E. Beaver Ave., to control the throngs of Steelers fans on the street and in passing cars celebrating the victory.
"It's a showcase of passion Steelers fans have had all year," Greg Mason (senior-secondary education) said. "I might have a tear in my eye soon," he said.
Lauren Appel (sophomore-public relations) said she was excited over the Steelers' victory and would not hesitate to rub it in the faces of Philadelphia Eagles fans.
"It's payback for last year," Appel said.
Alaina Krupa (freshman-meteorology) watched in Waring Commons as the Steelers struggled in the second quarter.
"I'm disappointed. The Steelers are my favorite team and they're losing," Krupa said.
However, Katie Clouthier (freshman-pre-medicine) lacked Krupa's passion for the game.
"I'm just here for the commercials," she said.
Nick Dalessandro (senior-accounting) said he was also nervous during the second quarter and held out hope for his team.
"The Steelers played a great season," Dalessandro said. "It's just another small victory for Steelers fans because we had a better season than the Eagles."
Alexei Kissel (junior-supply chain and information systems), who watched the game at Champs Sports Bar and Grill, 1611 N. Atherton St., said she was going to drive to Pittsburgh and cheer if the Steelers won.
"I'm going to put this stupid rivalry behind me," Carly Bruski (senior-journalism), a Philadelphia Eagles fan, said while watching the Super Bowl at Sports Café, 244 W. College Ave.
Although Bruski was more excited last year when the Eagles were in the Super Bowl, she said she is still having a good time with friends.
"It's hard not to get into the spirit of things when there are a million [Steelers] jerseys around," Bruski said.
However, Steelers fans did not forget their old rivals.
"This is so sweet, even the Eagles fans came out to see it," John Blose (sophomore-hotel, restaurant and institutional management) said.
Yet, some football fans were not as happy with the victory.
"I hate it ... I'm an Eagles fan ... worst day of my life," Scott Gervasi (sophomore engineering) said.
