Letter to the Editor
Legislative tactics prevent Rendell from progressing

In response to the letter regarding the lies of state Democrats: The author of that letter seems to have been misinformed or is simply overzealous ("Democrats continue to lie about taxes, minimum wage," Jan. 30).

Gov. Ed Rendell has tried to lower property taxes. The Republican-controlled Legislature, along with the understandably skeptical school districts, have not allowed him to pass anything. There are rumblings of a compromise to provide relief to property tax payers. This involves more relief for the most in need (the elderly, widowed and disabled) and moderate relief for all property owners. To say the governor lied about lowering property taxes is misleading. He has had stumbling blocks placed in his way, possibly for political reasons.
