A State College man, found in possession of numerous photographs of young female children posing nude in sexually provocative positions, was arrested and charged Monday with 45 counts of sexual abuse of children.
Miles E. Calhoun, 56, of 445 Waupelani Drive, is being held at Centre County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail, according to a State College Police Department press release.
According to the criminal complaint, a man who lived in the same apartment as Calhoun reported the pictures to his transitional housing supervisor, Thelma Walters. He said he found photographs of small children posing naked and engaged in various sexual acts, some engaged in sexual activities with older men, that he believed belonged to Calhoun.
The criminal complaint said Walters entered the apartment and found a file folder under the couch containing photographs that the man described would be there. She advised the State College police that the photographs were of young children posing naked. She also found a videotape with the title "Small Young Children," according to the criminal complaint.
Calhoun's roommate told police he was looking for his TV Guide under the couch and found the folder.
After the police obtained a search warrant from Magisterial District Judge Carmen Prestia, a search was conducted of Calhoun's apartment.
The criminal complaint said numerous photographs of young nude girls were found in the bedroom closet and the bookcase in the bedroom. There were also various computer disks found that contained photographs of young girls engaged in sexual acts.
Calhoun admitted to downloading and printing out the pictures from the Internet.
He was arraigned before Magisterial District Justice Daniel Hoffman. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday.
