Collegian Board of Opinion addresses difficult topics
I'd like to give some credit to The Daily Collegian's Board of Opinion. Now and then I flip back to the Collegian to check out the opinion page, and usually the columnists' work is depressingly pointless, and there are usually letters complaining about it. But what I haven't seen are letters applauding the board's editorials, and they ought to be streaming in. Last week the Collegian wrote on: Monday, "Supreme Court: Avoiding abortion case disservice to public"; Tuesday, "Coal Mining: Safety improvements should be top priority"; Wednesday, "Judge Samuel Alito: Politics cast cloud on confirmation process"; "PSU Research: Spending benefits professors, students," and the previous Friday, "MLK Marker: MLK commemorations appropriate for PSU." And this is not to mention the editorial "Real ID Act: Standardized IDs won't deter terrorists," Jan. 19, the previous week. Are you kidding? Seriously, I don't think I've seen this level of work at the Collegian -- ever. Eliot Walker
