Public deserves lower taxes; right to spend money freely

In response to the editorial, "Problems in Pennsylvania: Tax complaints show lack of priorities," Jan. 26, I just want to say the people have their priorities right in complaining about taxes.

Taxes need to be lowered not only in Pennsylvania, but nationwide. The Board of Opinion uses the example of tuition. The writer states taxes are necessary to help pay the grossly over inflated tuition bills for students, but doesn't realize that this is what caused the problem to begin with.

Collecting taxes and just siphoning the money to universities does nothing but let them charge as much as they please. If we want controlled tuition costs, we need to have uninhibited supply and demand. If people cannot afford college they will stop going, which will stop the cost from rising. If taxpayers pay students' bills so that any student can attend college, then we do nothing to help lower the cost. Not to mention all the money that goes from the working taxpayers will not benefit the taxpayers themselves due to the fact that so many young workers leave the state out of college.

Another example is medical malpractice. The enormous costs of medical care are caused by the same reason: The government taking money from everyone and just handing it out to others. Yes, we do want the freedom to spend our hard-earned money the way we deem best. It's our right to not have other people tell us what's best for us.
