Student hit while crossing intersection
Penn State student Jennifer Barrera, 21, suffered minor injuries when she was hit by a Jeep Cherokee while trying to cross the intersection of North Atherton Street and College Avenue at about 11 p.m. Friday, the State College Police Department said.
Barrera, who lives in Sproul Hall, told police she had several beers at Café 210 West, 210 W. College Ave., before the incident. She said she began running across the road, while talking on her cell phone, after looking both ways and not seeing any vehicles. The vehicle that hit her was driven by Patricia Trueax, 58, of Crystal Springs, police said.
Barrera, who had pain in her left hip and a bruise on her left cheek, was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment. The incident is still under investigation, police said.
Man assaulted, robbed outside hotel
A 21-year-old Penn State student reported he was assaulted and robbed at about 2 a.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Hilton Garden Inn, 1221 E. College Ave., the State College Police Department said. The victim said he was punched in the face, but sustained no serious injuries, and the perpetrator stole $80 from his pocket. Police said there are no suspects.
