Paterno apology necessary for sexual assault comments
My personal opinion was that Joe Paterno spoke about Florida State linebacker A.J. Nicholson without thinking ("PSU sends NOW reply," Jan. 26). There are times when everyone speaks without considering the consequences. What he said was insensitive, and a gentleman should realize that. I do not think he should be fired or be forced to resign. What is the problem with giving an apology? Has the university become so bureaucratic that it has to be discussed by lawyers and committees? It is time for him to step up and admit that it was a dumb thing to say and that he regrets any offense caused. Show us that you can also be a class act, Joe. Everyone puts their foot in their mouth now and then, and you are no different. Apologize and make it public. Mark B. Hammond
