Focus of 'Abroad' columns appropriate for readership
In response to Jennifer Rubritz's letter, " 'Abroad' series should focus on area's culture, character," Jan. 26, I think Dana Mathews did an excellent job of juxtaposing some of the lighter moments from her trip to the Bahamas as well as some of the more serious ones. Rubritz states that, "Most students are thinking about where the next party is more or less; we aren't concerned about the legal systems in other countries, unless we are forced to experience them first hand by mistake." I suggest then that Rubritz sticks to MTV's spring break coverage. Some students are interested in understanding the culture of a country beyond what it can serve for them incase they find themselves on the opposite side of the law. The Bahamas does derive much of its income from tourists; however, I'm glad Mathews dug a little deeper than what a travel brochure implied. Maggie Shuttlesworth
