Letter to the Editor
High taxes important issue to many people paying them

"Shut up and pay your taxes!" exclaimed local Harrisburg radio talk show host Bob Durgin, vividly depicting our lawmakers' disdain for concerned citizens. I was disappointed to read that same pompous sentiment in the editorial: "Problems in Pennsylvania: Tax complaints show lack of priorities," Jan. 26.

Maybe the editorial board members forget that Pennsylvania taxpayers subsidize a portion of their tuition. Perhaps they don't realize that compared to most individuals and businesses in the state, their tax burden is nil. After all, it's easy to defend higher taxes when you aren't the one who has to pay them.

The Board of Opinion's comments demonstrate a remarkable lack of perspective. I suggest it reserve any further judgment of taxpayers until its members become taxpayers.
