Domestic wiretapping typical for government

Mass media, Democrats and liberals have been making a big issue about the National Security Agency's invasion of people's privacy by listening to phone calls or internet monitoring. Not sure if I am missing something here, but do we actually think the NSA has never illegally listened (no warrants obtained) to phone calls which they thought contained conversations that threatened the security of the nation before the Bush administration? I thought that was the secret or hidden purpose of the NSA.

Many previous presidents (including the "great" Bill Clinton) have used the NSA's resources to obtain information about individuals who were considered to be security threats. That is the purpose of the agency, people.

As average citizens, do we really think the NSA has recorded and archived phone conversations about us on topics ranging from "What did you do over the weekend?" and "Baby, I think you're hot and sexy"? That would require a massive task force to go through all that phone traffic for all the U.S. citizens.

Make no mistake: If you are making overseas phone calls and having conversations detailing the construction of an atomic bomb, the NSA most likely is listening and recording your phone call. If you are making an overseas phone call and having a lengthy conversation about Uncle Jim's loud snoring at night, no agency (and possibly the person on the other end of the phone line) is monitoring the call.

So I ask you all, unless you have something to hide, are you really upset by the invasion of privacy or do you not like the Bush administration and are just trying any possible strategy to undermine the success on the war on terror by a Republican president?"
