The "right" thing different for each individual official
In response to the column, "'Golden Rule' should apply to politicians, too," Jan. 23, and the letters involving religion in politics, all politicians are doing what they think is right. However, there is the right thing to do, and then there is the "right" thing to do. The right thing to do is to minimize government intrusion into people's private lives while upholding a higher quality of life for all of its citizens. Then there is the "right" thing to do, which seeks to eradicate privacy, control personal choices and ensure those who are already ahead stay ahead and forget about everyone else. Of course all politicians want to do what is right. But some have the right values while others have the "right" values. Robert Riedel
