NEWS

As the days grow colder, students are already planning vacations to exotic spring break locales that will bring sunshine and relaxation come March.

Nick Bisceglia knows exactly where he'll be Feb. 5 when the Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Detroit for their first Super Bowl berth since the 1995 season -- sitting at his "lucky" table at the Sports Café.

A proposed wireless network that would extend across State College and onto Penn State's campus could be up and running as early as next year.

Using a decades-old craft, two Penn State students want to unite artisans and give back to the community through their new club: the Nittany Knitters.

Thirty-three years after the Supreme Court first handed down its seminal Roe v. Wade decision to legalize abortion, Penn State students recognized the date yesterday to both commemorate and protest the court's controversial law.

Penn State President Graham Spanier said in his opening remarks at the Penn State Board of Trustees meeting Friday that applications to the Penn State Dickinson School of Law had increased by 31 percent over last year.

SPORTS

Last weekend, the No. 12 Penn State Lady Icers (9-8, 3-5 ECWHL) were on cloud nine. The team had just captured first place in the Southeast Region with victories over Maryland and American University, greatly improving its playoff position, and was looking like a national contender.

Lions' Wilkins awarded 2005 coach of the year

Normally, it takes a full 40 minutes to win a basketball game.

Saturday's outcome may have led to some of the usual postgame head-scratching, but one thing was for certain. Neither coach was pleased with his team's performance.

Ask anyone to describe his or her dream vacation, and you can be sure that certain adjectives will be used.

Fresh off claiming a No. 1 ranking, the Penn State ACHA Division I Icers continued to play like Big Tymers and pushed their win streak to 15 games.

The final race of Saturday's Penn State Open was not run by athletes in a Penn State uniform. Rather, the coaches of the women's track team had the honor of running the last event.

Redemption was almost served by the No. 10 Penn State women's gymnastics team this weekend -- almost.

Last weekend, Penn State men's gymnast Tommy Ramos cheered his team on the sidelines as it defeated Temple.

"Success is never final, and failure is never fatal."

Going into Saturday's meet against Rutgers, Penn State women's swimming coach Bill Dorenkott knew that it would be tough to come out with a victory. He said his teams' opponent was one of the toughest Rutgers squads that he had seen in his tenure at Penn State. His suspicion was correct.

If the first half of Saturday's men's basketball game took place at the O.K. Corral instead of the Bryce Jordan Center, history would be written far differently.

Give Justin DePretis time and space in front of the opposing goaltender, and there is a good chance he'll score.
