Weimer, Gray invited to try out for U-21 squad

Two-time player of the year runner-up Tiffany Weimer and Big Ten all-freshman team member Sheree Gray have both been invited to the U.S. Under-21 Women's National Team training Camp being held from Jan. 14-21 in Carson, Calif.

Weimer led Penn State to the 2005 College Cup with 32 goals, establishing the Big Ten Conference single-season record and finished with 91 career goals, which also set the conference mark. She owns a share of the NCAA record for consecutive games with a goal (17) and was named M.A.C. Hermann Trophy runner-up for the second straight year. Weimer helped Penn State to its eighth consecutive Big Ten regular season championship and its first No. 1 ranking in program history. Weimer was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and was a unanimous choice for first team honors. Her selection as an NSCAA first team All-American marked her third straight first team honor.

One of two freshmen in the starting line-up this year, Gray was the only newcomer to start all 25 games for the Lions. The Big Ten all-freshman team member had two gamewinners, both in overtime during the Big Ten season.

Goalie McLeod named Academic All-American

Nittany Lion standout goalkeeper Erin McLeod has been named to the 2005 NSCAA/adidas Women's College Scholar All-America team, receiving first team honors in the University Division.

This honor marks the second academic honor of the season for McLeod, as she earned third-team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America honors, as well.

To be eligible for consideration for the NSCAA/adidas Women's College Soccer All-America team, a player must be at least a junior in academic standing, have no less than a 3.30 cumulative GPA, start at least 50 percent of the team's games and be nominated by an NSCAA member coach. McLeod, the Lions' starting goalkeeper, is a senior majoring in advertising and public relations and boasts a 3.57 GPA.

One of 50 Scholar All-America honorees, McLeod will be invited to the NSCAA All-America Luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, January 21, as part of the 2006 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia.
