Many politicians influenced by Christian views, beliefs

In Hannah Aboul-Hosn's column "Bible not legitimate source for political views," Jan. 19, she said she "cannot for the life of me understand how laws can be based on religious beliefs and still be constitutional or fair." I'd like to remind her that every single U.S. president has been a Christian.

Christianity, and presumably all other religions, teaches that God's law takes precedence over any man-made law. So at least in theory, every presidential decision ever made in this country should have been made with Christian beliefs in mind.

Aboul-Hosn also states that she believes the "right story" for the creation of the world is evolution. Evolution is incapable of proving where the origins of life came from as much as creationism is.

Therefore, the belief that evolution explains the origins of life is also based on faith. So as to not look like a hypocrite, hopefully Aboul-Hosn does not incorporate this belief into her religion-free politics.

Basing political views on one's religion is just as rational as basing it on anything else. Aboul-Hosn asks, "What else you got?" to those who use the Bible as a source of political beliefs. That's a pretty arrogant question since for Christians, the Bible represents the word of God.

This is not to say that blindly following a religion is a good way to form political beliefs, but refusing to understand why people combine religion and politics is flat out ignorant.
