Famed comedian George Carlin will not be performing tomorrow night at Eisenhower Auditorium as originally scheduled.
"Carlin's rep said that the comedian had some health issues over the holiday and that his doctor advised him to not travel just yet," said Laura Sullivan, Penn State's Center for the Performing Arts spokeswoman.
Sullivan added that Carlin's representative said that the comedian is in good health now, but he is taking the necessary precautions to stay healthy.
Carlin, who performed at Penn State two years ago, was scheduled to perform tomorrow night for a nearly full auditorium. His performance has been rescheduled for 8 p.m. Feb. 24. Tickets are being refunded for students who cannot make the later date, but they will be refunded only until Jan. 31, Sullivan said.
"For students who can make the later date, they can just use their current ticket for that show," Sullivan said.
With the show's strong ticket sales, Sullivan said that it was upsetting to hear about the cancellation only two days before the originally scheduled date.
"I don't think the canceled date will affect the show," Quinn Lindgren (senior-journalism) said. "If students want to see him, they will."
Carlin was the one who actually contacted Sullivan to put Penn State on his tour.
"He's been cutting back on his show dates and on his interviews," Sullivan said. "We're just happy that he still wants to come back to Penn State."
When Carlin performed last, Sullivan said it was to an enthusiastic and energetic crowd, and she said she saw no real risk in bringing a comedian to Penn State who is known for his profanity.
"Most students know his material and know what they're in for when they see his show," Sullivan said.
Ashleigh Levy (senior-public relations) said she felt bringing a comedian like Carlin to Penn State is educational.
"I personally like George Carlin," Levy said. "He touches on topics that other people wouldn't dare, which I think is very valuable to society."
