Woman found guilty in heroin case

Collegian Staff Writer

A woman arrested in connection with a New Jersey man who allegedly ran what officials are calling the largest heroin ring in Centre County's recent history was sentenced to 11-and-a-half to 23 months in Centre County Prison yesterday.

Kenyon Ebeling, 36, of Boalsburg, was given the same sentence -- 11-and-a-half to 23 months -- on four counts of drug-related charges.

Ebeling's sentences will run at the same time instead of one after another, Judge Thomas Kistler ruled.

Her lawyer, Erik Rutkowski, told the judge that "a lot of her decisions were bad decisions," and that "she would like to put this behind her."

Two other individuals involved in the drug ring -- connected to Taji "Verbal" Lee --had their sentence hearings postponed until March.

Officials said they want to ensure that the charged individuals testify against Lee before offering them a plea bargain.

Because Bradley Arzner, 25 and Trista Shope, 24, both of State College, have agreed to testify against Lee, prosecutors want to wait until after Lee goes to trial to sentence them on drug-related charges, Deputy Attorney General Director Christopher Abruzzo said.

Rutkowski declined to comment on whether or not Ebeling would testify.

Lee was arrested Jan. 11 after a three-year investigation. He was charged with delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility, money laundering and drug delivery resulting in the death of Boyd Francis, according to court documents.

Ebeling and Shope were arrested March 31, 2005.

Arzner was arrested April 12, 2005. He was sentenced for aggravated assault charges yesterday stemming from a December 2004 incident where he stabbed a Penn State student.
