Delta Sigma's punishment appropriate for infraction

I was irritated when I read, "Delta Sigma: PSU should advocate harsher punishment," Jan. 11. I would like to clear up the situation regarding Delta Sigma fraternity.

Delta Sigma broke the rules, and as a consequence no longer exists. Penn State, Delta Sigma Phi and Delta Sigma alumni are taking responsibility for converting the fraternity back to a national chapter.

There will be an interview process and changes will be made. This isn't a plan to circumvent punishment, but rather a process of determining who will contribute positively to the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and help the organization become a positive aspect and component of the university.

Every brother of the Delta Sigma isn't an infamous criminal. Delta Sigma was consistently among the top fraternities for GPA and raising money for Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon. But the university also understands that the mistakes of a few shouldn't ruin 100 years of tradition, and it should also not ruin a number of young men's chances to experience the fraternity life, as they have worked for while making positive contributions to the university.

The Daily Collegian and its readers should not act like they know who I am as a person or any other brother of Delta Sigma. Let Penn State deal with the issue in a way it sees fit.
