University officials too harsh in Delta Sigma punishment
This letter is in response to the editorial, "Delta Sigma: PSU should advocate harsher punishment," Jan. 11). The incident that happened at Delta Sigma fraternity last semester was unfortunate, however I don't believe that Delta Sigma has escaped any type of punishment for the incident. First, the fraternity was shut down; all of the members living in the house (many of whom had nothing to do with the incident) had to find somewhere to live on short notice. As a former Delta Sigma member, I know it was not easy to transition from Delta Sigma Phi to Delta Sigma, and it is going to be even more difficult to go back. Each person interested in joining the fraternity will be interviewed to determine whether or not he should be a member. Finally, what type of punishment is not allowing a group of college students to raise money for kids with cancer? The university should punish the fraternity by restricting their participation in social events, not charitable events. Dan Healy
