Two heads are better than one. Four heads better still.
The Penn State women's swimming team came up short against Florida in Saturday's meet, falling 152-136 to the Gators, despite capturing strong wins in its relays.
The No. 12 Nittany Lions (5-4) spent the last two weeks of their break in Florida starting with their annual training trip, and finishing up with the meet against the No. 4 Gators in Gainesville.
Despite the loss, Penn State swimming coach Bill Dorenkott was optimistic about how his team performed over the break.
"They're a little beat up both physically and mentally but we've been staying focused," Dorenkott said.
Penn State was only able to garner top places in three individual events and swept two events, a complete 180 when compared to the other meets that it swam earlier this season.
Amberle Biedermann was the first to draw blood against the Gators when she won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:00.44.
Junior Nikki Collins took first place in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 4:52.33. Junior Margy Keefe, senior Patty Murphy and freshman Sarah Baker rounded out the top four, respectively.
The 100-yard fly was owned by Penn State too, as Karie Haglund, Biedermann, Kelly Nelson and Kristin Smith took the top four medal places.
The crowning glory of the meet for the Lions came from the group of Biedermann, senior Sarah Haupt, junior Genie Cheng and freshman Nelson, as it took home first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.03.
The Lions return home Saturday to compete against St. Bonaventure.
