Ice Lions to face Penn tonight

For The Collegian

Many may not know it, but the Ice Lions of Penn State are ranked No. 2 in the Northeastern Region of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. The reason that many students at Penn State would not know this is because the Ice Lions play second fiddle to the ACHA Division I Icers.

The Ice Lions will continue to try and make a name for themselves when they take on Pennsylvania at 9:15 tonight at the Greenberg Ice Pavilion.

While they may be a Division II team, the Ice Lions are not a team lacking in talent. The team boasts one of the most impressive lines in all of collegiate hockey with the power play tandem of seniors Kevin Jaeger, Chris Stoehr and Matt Weber. The trio has combined to score 29 goals on the season, six more than all opponents combined.

But it is Jaeger's name that may sound most familiar to Penn State Students. Jaeger holds the Icers record for most career goals with 174.

"It has been great playing with two great players like them," Weber said.

Penn State has been virtually unstoppable this season, as they have cruised to a 13-1 record while outscoring opponents 86-25 in those 14 games.

While the Penn Quakers may not be as good as the Lions they should not be overlooked. The Quakers are ranked No. 12 in the Southeast Region and need to climb two spots to be eligible for post-season play. According to Weber the Ice Lions need to come out with the same attitude that they do every game and play.

Not only is Penn a team in need of win, they have their fair share of talented players as well. Cale Spaulding has netted 20 goals to go along with 11 assists on the year.

As impressive as Spaulding may be at putting the puck in the back of the net, Justin Mascitelli has been equally impressive at setting up his teammates with 20 assists on the year.
