Some Thon members forget true meaning

People should not attack Delta Sigma member Mike O'Brien who wants his fraternity recognized for raising money for Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon ("Delta Sigma banning hurts Thon children," Dec. 2).

Yes, using Thon as an excuse to save your fraternity is wrong but I understand why he would say that. This entire campus considers Thon a competition no matter what anyone says, and of course Delta Sigma is going to want to be recognized just like everyone else for the money they raise.

To pretend everyone involved with Thon does it out of the kindness of his or her own heart is untrue. I would say the majority do, but a large amount don't.

If you're going to criticize O'Brien for wanting to be recognized for his achievements, then you're wrong. If you want to be right, then maybe we should stop announcing the top fundraising organizations during Thon. But oh wait, I'm sure those are just the organizations with the most heart in it; they don't care about the status of being at the top.
