Hurricane relief is especially important to PSMA members, Feeley said, because the Penn State chapter competes in the American Marketing Association International Collegiate Conference, which is held every year in New Orleans. This spring's conference will be held in Orlando, Fla.
"This is a big thing for us," Feeley said. "We care about New Orleans, and this is our way to work with the community here to give back."
PSMA member and Cloverleaf drummer Garrett Bogden (freshman-marketing) organized the benefit. The acoustic/piano rock band will debut two new songs at tonight's performance.
Planning began in mid-September, but Bogden said organizing it wasn't always easy.
"It took a while, especially getting all the bands on the same page and getting the venue," he said. "I tried to get several other bands as well, but they were unwilling. They thought the drive to State College was too far or something."
Grenadas Dream, though, is one local band excited to play tonight.
"We've never played the Crowbar before," drummer Derek Salazar (sophomore-business) said. "Once I heard 'the Crowbar,' I was in, and then when [Bogden] told me it's a benefit, that made it all the better."
Salazar said his band mates were coming from Philadelphia and were happy to play for hurricane relief. "There is so much left to be done," Salazar said.
Grenadas Dream will play songs from its new album Frames and Dames. Salazar couldn't describe the band.
"There are just so many terms out there -- we just stick with 'rock,' " he said.
Cloverleaf and Grenadas Dream will share the bill with local hip hop and R&B group Audio Imagery and progressive rock band Phantasm.
Bogden said organizers wanted diverse acts and are pleased with tonight's lineup.
"Even though people are starting to forget [about Hurricane Katrina], it's important to offer relief," Bogden said.
