Conservative policies not limited to Target

I appreciate that The Daily Collegian was able to bring to my attention the fact that Target believes it can make my major reproduction decisions for me ("Plan B prescription policy for Target's pharmacists violates women's rights," Dec. 1).

However, I'm concerned that the editorial seems to imply that Target is the first, and perhaps only major company that has enacted this immoral, unfair policy. Wal-Mart, which is indeed a larger corporation than Target, added its refusal to even stock emergency contraceptives on its shelves to a long list of shameful business practices long ago.

To name a few things, this list includes keeping many of its full-time employees close to the poverty line, and making health benefits an almost unattainable dream for these people. It is important to inform students about Target's policy, but to single out this company is both unfair and dangerous, as it may encourage students to avoid shopping at Target and to choose Wal-Mart instead. And for more reasons than an arrogant belief that it has the right to decide which (very much legal) drugs it will provide customers, Wal-Mart is an awful alternative.
