The Daily Collegian's editorial falsely declares that Target "clearly defies" federal law by allowing its pharmacists the choice not to sell the morning after pill ("Plan B prescription policy for Target's pharmacists violates women's rights," Dec. 1).
Having not done any research before writing the editorial, the Collegian does not explain which law has been broken. This omission is made because no such law exists. Not only did the Collegian misstated the law, but also its reasoning "clearly defies" free-market economics.
Retailers have no legal duty to sell anything they do not wish to. Customers can take their business to another store that offers the pill. Target runs the risks of losing customers, but that is their choice. Likewise, customers choose where they will make purchases. That's the beauty of the free market: choice.
