Link obvious between death penalty and race
In response to the letter, "Race, death penalty share no connection," Nov. 30, I'd like to just point out that race, unfortunately, does have an effect on sentencing. However, it is not the race of the offender, but rather the race of the victim that matters. According to the Death Penalty Information Web site, www.deathpenaltyinfo.org, since the death penalty was reinstated in 1976, 206 black defendants have been executed for murdering of white victims, but only 12 white defendants have been executed for murdering a black victim. Clearly something is wrong and it needs to be stopped. Why is the United States the only industrialized country to still use this inhumane process? Andrew Pecora
