Following the Icers' two-win, two-shutout weekend against No. 8 Lindenwood this past weekend, Icers head coach Joe Battista was already looking ahead to the next series of games.
"We don't have any time to sit and enjoy this. We've got a tough weekend coming up," Battista said.
The weekend will be the second time that the Icers have played three games in three days this season. They opened the season with three wins; one at home and two on the road, including a road win against Div. I Robert Morris (Pa.).
For the showcase, Penn State is part of the three-team representation from the East, including No. 14 West Chester, and ironically enough, Lindenwood. The Lions from Missouri are located farther west than any of the Michigan-based teams that will represent the west this weekend.
The format of the weekend's competition is officially a showcase, meaning each of the teams from the east will play each team from the West in the three-game span, Battista said.
Friday's game makes the first time the Icers will be scheduled to face Eastern Michigan (7-11-0) since a hazing incident cancelled its 2003-2004 campaign.
The team has been on probation ever since.
"They had to stop playing two years ago," Battista said. "Literally the weekend they were supposed to play us, the president cancelled the rest of their season for the hazing incident, and we haven't played them since."
While a Friday reunion with the Eagles might be ominous, the real trap could be on Saturday night.
Host UM-Dearborn (12-7-0) split its four-game series with the Icers last season, and another top-10 opponent can't be taken for granted, Battista said.
"Three games in three days again," Battista said of the schedule he, in fact, made.
"Whoever put our schedule together is a real masochist."
