[ Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005 ] Letter to the Editor
Columnist's opinions not worth arguments
I love Wednesdays. I can't wait to pick-up my copy of The Daily Collegian so I can get the answer to that one question, "Who will Thomas Mei upset this week?" I always chuckle as I read his columns and begin to anticipate the letters the next day from outraged "non-racists," diehard Penn State fans, and Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Council Dance Marathon members. To the authors of those letters I give this advice: Don't make an editorial page column a personal attack against you. While I agree Mei could be more tactful in approaching some of these subjects, he usually has some valid underlying point. I have been to all the football games the last three years. I don't remember having near record-breaking attendance or $500 tickets the previous two years. There are also other philanthropic events besides Thon that more students should get involved in, like the Penn State-Michigan State Blood Donor Challenge. It takes about an hour to save somebody's life through a blood donation, yet well below 2,000 donations were made this year by Penn State students. Keep up the good work Thomas Mei. Your style gets people to think more openly about both sides of an issue. Matt Eggert
