With the 4-1 victory against the Aggies (18-4-2), Wilkins now has 100 career wins in just five years as the head coach of the Nittany Lions.
Redshirt freshman Zoe Bouchelle led Wilkins' soaking with help from senior forward Carmelina Moscato.
"I believe it was Zoe," Wilkins said. "And Zoe, I believe, has more water on her than she got on me. All I know was that [sophomore defender] Denay [Riley] kept going, 'I was in the back. I had nothing to do with it. If we're running sprints about it, I'm not doing it.' "
After the game, Wilkins didn't talk about what the win meant to her, but rather what it meant to Penn State.
"It's a great testament to this program and what they've done. I'm glad I've been able to do it with this team," Wilkins said. "They're very special."
The milestone was not an easy one for Wilkins. The Aggies took a 1-0 lead into halftime thanks to a 19th-minute goal by sophomore forward Melissa Garey. It was the first time all season the Lions trailed at halftime.
The Lions (22-0-1) had numerous opportunities to score in the first half, taking 13 shots, but a tough Texas A&M defense -- led by senior goalkeeper Kati Jo Spisak -- denied every single one of their chances.
Going into the second half, Bouchelle had no worries about her team's inability to score.
"I knew we were going to get one eventually if we just kept plugging away and kept shooting," she said. "I would have been more concerned if we weren't getting any chances at all."
The Lions continued to get chances in the second half -- 15 to be exact -- and like Bouchelle hoped, they finally completed their shots.
Bouchelle scored the first, knocking the ball into the right-hand corner of the net off a pass from senior forward Tiffany Weimer.
After that, Weimer took control of the game, notching a hat trick in the second half alone. The game winner came in the 73rd minute on a pass from Bouchelle to Weimer, but it was the forward's second goal that sealed the game.
Texas A&M's junior defender Lauren Pfister stole the ball from Weimer but fell down, letting the ball roll freely. Weimer had to hurdle Pfister but retrieved the ball and beat Spisak one on one.
Twelve minutes later, Weimer completed the hat trick, pushing the lead to three.
Texas A&M is hosting the 2005 College Cup but will have to watch from the stands now. The Aggies star forward Ashlee Pistorius said that Penn State deserved to be the winner.
"It's sad when you know that they're the better team out there," she said.
Pistorius was named a finalist for the SoccerBuzz National Player of the Year award and has 22 goals and 12 assists. Despite her gaudy numbers, Riley said Penn State's defense was not intimidated.
"Nah, Natalie [Jacobs] had her," Riley said smiling. "Natalie can handle some business. I didn't see much of her in the game. She was on the ground."
Penn State will now face No. 2 seed Santa Clara sometime between Friday and Sunday in the Elite Eight.
In the meantime, Bouchelle and her teammates may have to run off their wet celebration.
"Of course," Wilkins said when asked if Bouchelle would have to run a little more in practice. "If you were here the last game you'd know her fitness was much better. So it doesn't really matter to her."
It was all worth it to Bouchelle.
"Put me on the line, boss," she said.
