DB Zemaitis selected as defensive player of week

For the third time this season, a member of Penn State's highly ranked defense has been selected the Walter Camp Football Foundation's National Defensive Player of the Week.

Senior cornerback Alan Zemaitis delivered the best game of his career in Saturday's 31-22 win at Michigan State to clinch the Big Ten Championship and was named defensive player of the week yesterday.

The All-America candidate led the defensive charge by intercepting three passes, the most by a Nittany Lion since Darren Perry had three against Boston College in 1991. Zemaitis also tied his season-high with seven solo tackles and had another pass break-up.

Zemaitis made several big plays in the win that lifted Coach Joe Paterno's squad to a berth in the Bowl Championship Series. He made his first interception at the Penn State 3-yard-line to stop a MSU threat. Zemaitis made his second interception at the Michigan State 21-yard-line, returning it 17 yards to set-up a touchdown for a 24-7 lead in the third quarter. He collected his third interception at the Penn State 8-yard-line to stop another MSU threat in the fourth quarter.
