Political arguments dubious for all sides
Liberals and conservatives need to take a deep breath ("Wall stands for PSU divide," Nov. 11). The broad strokes with which each side paints the other do a disservice to society as a whole. Expletives and name-calling are an old and disingenuous tactic in politics. By demonizing the opposition, you deny their humanity and discount their reasonableness. It's pretty prevalent in national politics today, and it's repulsive. I know good people from both sides of the political fence. Most want the same basic things -- a safe environment in which to raise their families and the freedom to pursue their happiness, whatever it might be. Lowering discourse with the puerile and immature tactics of slander and demonization serves no purpose save for a momentary spiteful thrill for the person committing the transgression. Remember that whatever you think about life and your experience is outweighed by your ignorance and always will be. There is more to learn in life than any human can ever envision. Keep an open mind; don't close it with hatred and fear. Dave Spaar
