Police censor speech by using Facebook

Yesterday's Daily Collegian editorial, "Police use of Facebook to locate field rushers censors students' speech," Nov. 15, is right on target.

If the police are harming students for the sake of protecting a piece of turf, it will continue to strain police-student relations, and we as students will continue to wonder what the police really think constitutes a crime worth solving. We don't hear too many police success stories, so maybe the Collegian should do a little investigating and see what the police have been up to in the past few months.

Perhaps if the police can show us that they're cracking down on real crimes affecting real victims, such as theft, assault and rape, then maybe we'll have a little more faith in them. Otherwise, the more the police antagonize students over petty issues like parking tickets and walking on the sacred turf of Beaver Stadium, the more the students will want to rebel against them.
