Feminist benefits help non-feministic women
Although I do not agree with everything in Scott Dimmich's politically incorrect column, "Feminist society would dissatisfy many women," Nov. 8, about feminist societies, particularly the line about blue-collar workers, I do think he has a point. Call me old-fashioned, but I like it when a guy holds the door for me, pays for dinner or escorts me home. Unlike some women I know who were outraged by the column, I don't think women are trading respect for a $5 movie ticket. I am capable of doing these things on my own, but it demonstrates they care when they are willing to spend their time, energy or money. Like any other self-respecting woman, I am in debt to the feminist movement which made it possible for me to vote, attend college and earn a decent job. Still, I must comment that although I will fight to the death that woman are just as capable of performing the same mentally straining jobs as men, it is certainly true that men and women are not also physical equals. If I were passed out in a burning building, I'd rather have a guy come carry me out than a woman who must drag me down the stairs because she cannot lift me on her own. At the end of the day, feminism should be fighting for equality where it really matters, like equal pay, and should not bashing male chivalry. Christine Aubert
