Thon needs to extend support to other causes
When I read Thomas Mei's column, "Philanthropic acts should not be limited to Thon," Nov. 9, I knew that I would soon be seeing angry letters from Interfraternity/Panhellenic Dance Marathon participants who missed the subtleties of the piece. I would like to commend Mei for a well-written, thoughtful column. As Mei clearly said, Thon is an amazing event. It's exciting that thousands of students spend that much time raising money for the kids. The problem isn't Thon; the problem is that each year, most students feel that by participating in Thon, they've done enough. Mei is correct in pointing out there are other kids, in addition to our Four Diamonds Fund families, that could use help. There's so much we could do if we extended the Thon spirit to other causes that deserve attention. Rachel Leese
