Troop support separate from Iraqi war support
Reading Meredith Jones' column was a breath of fresh air ("Glimpse into soldiers' lives provides keen insight," Nov. 10). My boyfriend is a U.S. Marine who returned home from Iraq last month. A few weeks ago he came to visit me and while walking downtown, we encountered an anti-war protest. It took everything he had to not walk over there and give them a piece of his mind. But he held his head high and walked past saying, "they just don't understand," in a tone of anger and disappointment. It broke my heart. He felt as if the protesters couldn't care less about his military service. I understand not supporting the war, but Jones is right when she says we can support our troops. What happened to all those people who had yellow, and red, white and blue ribbons on their cars? We need to show the troops that we can support them, even if we do not totally agree with this war. They are doing this for us and it shouldn't go unnoticed. Most college students do not think about those our age who are not attending classes because they are serving this country. I hope everyone gains a different perspective from reading Jones' opinion. Jessica Stumpf
